The ME in Engineering with Business offers a unique opportunity for engineering students to deepen the knowledge of in the business and management areas and is open to engineering students of all disciplines.

Who is the ME (Engineering with Business) for?
The ME (Engineering with Business) is for engineering graduates from any discipline who plan to practice engineering in a business context.

What will I learn?
You will develop an understanding of how to make engineering decisions in a business context. This will entail both conceptual and practical skills spanning technical, financial and business fields, designed to equip you for the dynamic business environment. The programme includes a wide range of technical and business topics including finance, entrepreneurship, marketing, business information systems and innovation.

How will I benefit?
Engineering is viewed by many as an ideal preparation for a career in business or management. On this programme you will be able to build on your core technical skills, while also gaining a unique set of competencies in business and technology management. As a result you will develop a cross disciplinary perspective which is essential to a successful career in business.

What is the programme about?
Professional engineers need to understand the environment in which they practice. As their career progresses, engineers are increasingly involved in functions such as finance, quality, marketing and strategy. The ME provides grounding in these areas, to give graduates an understanding of the business implications of engineering decisions. The programme focusses on the practical application of knowledge, which culminates in the 6 month work placement and the industry oriented research project in the final year.

Programme Highlights
* Delivered by both the College of Engineering and Architecture and the Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School
* An opportunity to study with a mix of graduates from other engineering disciplines and with business graduates
* A programme focussed on the application of technical knowledge in a business context

Where can I go?
The ME (Engineering with Business) is designed to produce fully qualified engineers who have a particular interest in and understanding of the business context within which engineers usually operate. It was conceived to address the perceived lack of “industry-ready” engineers coming out of third level education. Career opportunities are very broad as the ME positions students not as a narrow technical specialist but as a “T-shaped” individual combining specialist skills with a broad understanding of the business environment. In addition to careers within their technical specialisms, ME (Engineering with Business) graduates can consider careers in management consulting, the financial sector and IT.
