The Mountbatten Institute has provided paid internships abroad combined with academic study to thousands of young professionals since it’s founding in 1984. Our new MBA programme combines a year’s full-time, international work placement with a globally recognized course of study.
Sixteen months – two continents
The Mountbatten Institute partnered with St. Mary’s University College, London in 2009 in order to deliver a degree designed to link workplace practice with business theory. This unique integrative learning curriculum combines a year’s full-time, international work placement and part-time study in New York with an intensive, field-work experience in Bangkok.
Twelve months in New York
In New York, students complete four core modules: Managerial Accounting and Finance, Organizational Behavior and Leadership, Global Business, and Strategic Management, which includes participation in Capsim business simulation. Classes for each module are delivered over evening seminars, weekend teaching blocks and through online learning.
During the week, students work full-time for a New York company. Former students benefited from placements with global giants, Deutsche Bank, JP Morgan Chase, UBS, Thomson Reuters and Citi as well as for law firms and government organizations. Roles range from Business Analyst to Paralegal, Marketing Executive to HR Associate. In the often demanding and fast-paced working environment of New York City, MBA students are rewarded with daily professional challenges, allowing them to develop transferable soft skills and cross cultural awareness critical to long-term, professional success.
Four months in Asia
On completion of the New York year, MBA students travel to Asia to participate in a four-month fieldwork programme based in Bangkok. Students also study two modules from the following four electives: Principles of International Finance, Global Marketing, Managing Change, and Operations and Supply Chain Management.
Fieldwork in Asia will give students the opportunity to reflect on the region’s economies and business practices drawing on professional experiences in New York and elsewhere in the world. Dissertations showcase knowledge and insights from an international perspective. Many students visit business centers in India, Singapore, Hong Kong or China in order to carry out research.
