The School of Social Development and Public Policy (SSDPP) was originally founded in 1999 as a research institute and officially became a school in September 2008. SSDPP is an interdisciplinary institution that integrates 35 faculty members from a variety of academic backgrounds, including sociology, economics, political science, anthropology, education, psychology, management, geography, statistics, medicine, public health, and history. The focus of SSDPP’s teaching and research is on social policy, social welfare, civil society development, public health, risk management and governance. SSDPP’s research outputs have been published in top international and Chinese journals and its empirically based policy advice has regularly shaped state policies and plans.
