About the course

Overview

The mission of the MSc in Corporate Governance and Compliance is to provide specialised training and practical knowledge to prepare directors, company secretaries and compliance professionals for strengthening the sustainability and accountability of their organisations. The School of Business aims to achieve all that with an expert teaching team and an innovative curriculum.

Students will receive an all-rounded education in corporate governance to meet the challenges of an increasingly complex regulatory environment and ever-rising expectation of shareholders and stakeholders.

Entry Requirements

Applicants shall normally meet the following requirements:
(1) A Bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognised university or comparable institution, or an equivalent qualification (such as a recognised professional qualification in accounting or finance).
(2) Language Proficiency Requirement: If English was not the medium of instruction for undergraduate studies, applicants should possess evidence of good English of proficiency: (i) a minimum TOEFL score of 550 (paper-based) /79 (internet-based); or (ii) IELTS (academic) overall band score of 6.5; or (iii) an equivalent score on a comparable test.
(3) Applicants are preferable with three years of relevant work experience.

Scholarships

The International Postgraduate Scholarships (IPS) scheme at the HKBU School of Business is a global initiative designed to nurture future business leaders, bringing together highly-talented and intellectually-motivated students from around the world to one of our selected taught postgraduate programmes. Although these young achievers come from diverse backgrounds, they have all demonstrated leadership potential and have a common interest in making a difference in the word.

Scholarship recipients will get full tuition waiver PLUS living allowance of approx. USD 12,800.

Eligibility

(1) International applicants with nationality outside of Greater China
(2) Applying to the full-time (1 Year) MSc in Corporate Governance and Compliance programme
(3) Meeting the programme admission requirements
(4) Demonstrating competitive academic performance and/or professional experience
(5) Willingness to serve the School in its internationalisation and student related projects for not more than 5 hours per week during the period of study

Application Procedure

Step 1: Submit the online application before application deadlines (Competition increases as the year progresses, so we recommend starting your application early).
Step 2: Pay a non-refundable application fee of HKD450.
Step 3: All the prospective students with nationality outside of Greater China will be considered for the qualification of the International Postgraduate Scholarships (IPS) or other scholarships simultaneously. Shortlisted applications will be invited for an interview. The University will select qualified students and inform the selected students of the scholarship awards in due course. Therefore, a separate application for a scholarship is not required.

The MScCGC HKBU Local Entrance Awards are targeted at local executives and professionals who aspire to master their knowledge and skills in best corporate governance practices.
The award is worth an amount equivalent to 1/3 of the total programme fee of the intake year.
Up to 3 awards are available each academic year.
Participants must:
(1) be a local resident of Hong Kong at enrollment;
(2) have 5 years of work experience or above at enrollment;
(3) complete the whole programme within 2 academic years; and
(4) able to maintain a minimum 3.33 GPA at graduation.

Value of Scholarship(s)

An amount equivalent to 1/3 of the total programme fee of the intake year

Eligibility

Participants must:
(1) be a local resident of Hong Kong at enrollment;
(2) have 5 years of work experience or above at enrollment;
(3) complete the whole programme within 2 academic years; and
(4) able to maintain a minimum 3.33 GPA at graduation.
