About This Masters Degree

Course Description


This innovative degree is offered in partnership with the Sydney Institute of Marine Science (SIMS), the University of Technology Sydney, the University of New South Wales and the University of Sydney. This interdisciplinary and cross-institutional degree is unique in Australia, and gives you in-depth knowledge in a range of disciplines in marine science and management.

Study at up to three of the four participating universities. Students enrol at one of the partner universities where they complete six of eight subjects. Two of the remaining subjects can be chosen from a list of electives across all participating universities. The core subject involves a seminar series at the newly built teaching facilities at SIMS taught by leading Australian and international marine scientists. The unit culminates in a research project taking advantage of the Australian Integrated Marine Observing System database.

Honours, Graduate Diploma, Masters (coursework) or Higher Degree Research in a relevant discipline.

- Relevant disciplines
Environment or Marine Science related discipline;
Bachelor of Marine Science, Bachelor of Science with major in biology, or earth sciences, or geology, or geography, or oceanography, or environmental science, or Bachelor of Environmental Science, or Bachelor of Environmental Law, or any other bachelor’s degree with a substantial (>one third) component of biology, geoscience, environmental science, or oceanography.

- Relevant areas
Environment or Marine Science related sector e.g. any government, private sector, civil society position focused on environment, natural resources, oceanography, marine science.

English language requirements

IELTS of 6.5 overall with minimum 6.0 in each band, or equivalent

All applicants for undergraduate or postgraduate coursework studies at Macquarie University are required to provide evidence of proficiency in English.
