My choice of King’s College London for my graduate study was primarily based on the worldwide reputation that King’s enjoys, being elected one of the top 25 universities in the world. Secondly, as my focus is on financial law, there was really no place else to go, as King’s professors in this field are amongst the best in the UK, which makes sense when you realise that London is one of the financial capitals of the world.
Furthermore, King’s is very well located in London, at the heart of the law and financial quarter. The Maughan Library, which serves all King’s students, is in walking distance and is a prime area for studying, apart from being such a beautiful building.
In addition, the wide array of organisations and societies that are available for the students is impressive. It is really easy to engage in any of the pro-bono groups or sports societies, in what can really contribute in terms of networking and socialising with international students from very different backgrounds.
After finishing my LLM I hope that the doors for a really international career will be open for me and I would definitely recommend King’s to any prospective student.
Before I enrolled on the LLM programme, I took the pre-sessional course at the King’s English Language Centre. It was an amazing experience for me. Not only could I improve my English language ability through tutorials, but also I could learn things related to law in the workshops. The teachers were really professional and kind. They taught me how to prepare a research essay and a presentation based on British academic rules. It was quite useful for my following studies. In addition, I could make a lot of motivated and wonderful friends.
By studying at King’s and meeting the people who have high aspirations for the future of various branches of law, I am convinced that I can enhance the perspectives of my research and broaden my horizons.
After graduating from King’s, I plan to take the bar exam in China. Based on the knowledge and experience gained at King’s, I am sure that it enhances my legal understanding and thinking, which may aid in my way of becoming a lawyer.
Before coming to King’s I have been working as a qualified lawyer for four years for one of the major Italian international law firms focusing on corporate and financial issues. Although my working experience has been highly valuable, I felt that it was important for me to consolidate the information accumulated so far and reanalyze them from a global perspective. Thus, I applied to King's College London because of its strong reputation for excellence in international financial and commercial law, as well as for the eminence of its academics and its international and cosmopolitan environment.
Attending an LLM programme at King’s has been an ideal choice to explore both the practical and theoretical sides of financial and commercial law. It helped me to learn more about the UK legal system and to compare it with different legal systems. It was also a unique occasion to share my ideas and expertise with those of professors and students coming from different countries and to give my contribution to the international arena. I am certain that my career will benefit immensely from this course of study and I strongly believe that the LLM I pursued at King’s helped me to become a more balanced business lawyer.
