The Master of International Business is a modern business degree with a global outlook. The degree provides an opportunity to acquire contemporary knowledge and skills in core business disciplines taking an international focus. The degree promotes both depth and breadth in business studies through a program of core study in international accounting, finance, marketing and trade together with elective units chosen from a range of business disciplines including marketing and information technology. There is also an opportunity to take units in cross-cultural studies, international communications and international relations.
Besides building career relevant skills in business disciplines, graduates will develop skills in innovative thinking, effective written and oral communication and team work.
The degree is suited to a wide range of interests but is particularly relevant to those who plan a career in organisations that conduct business beyond a single domestic economy. For example, the Master of International Business is relevant for those planning careers with parent companies having foreign subsidiaries, export oriented firms and public sector bodies involved in cross-border commercial issues.
The Master of International Business is suitable for recent graduates as it does not have a work experience requirement. The degree is also appropriate for graduates of some years standing seeking to move forward from domestic business into international business.
The Master of International Business will provide a solid foundation for careers in the challenging and rewarding world of international business. In today's world, almost all big business is international, and the Master of International Business will give its graduates the career edge they need.
The Master of International Business degree requires the completion of eight units. There are four core units and four elective units. Each unit is one semester in duration.
Students who have not completed appropriate business units as part of a prior degree are required to complete a preliminary program of study before taking the standard eight unit component of the MCom or MIB degree. The purpose of a preliminary program is to build essential foundation knowledge required for successful completion of Masters level units.
