The MHCL programme has a strong curriculum that equips HR leaders with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to better support HR’s work as a strategic partner to the business, and I have benefited much from the programme. The exposure and learnings provided through the MHCL are especially relevant for HR practitioners and leaders, as organisations look to transform their workforce to remain competitive in an environment that is increasingly complex and more uncertain.

I have always enjoyed walking around the SMU campus and studying in various SMU buildings. Being located in the downtown Singapore, it is always exhilarating to walk through lush greenery to get to the different school facilities equipped with the latest technology. And once I am in class, I get to interact with peers from different cultures, areas of expertise and industries, as well as learn from professors with strong academic credentials and a wide range of local and global work experiences.

Despite being a young university, SMU has already elevated itself to be one of Asia’s top universities. So even if the Masters in Human Capital Leadership (MHCL) program is new, I was excited to participate in it as its curriculum is designed together with world-class institutions such as the Wharton Center for Human Resources, Singapore Human Capital Leadership Institute and the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development.

The MHCL programme gave me the opportunity to learn about HR practices from different perspectives. It offered me opportunities to learn from globally recognised HR thought leaders, prominent business leaders, well-published professors, and experienced HR professionals who are also my classmates. As talent was becoming a top priority of senior leaders, the programme allowed me to understand how to think more strategically about HR processes, and how to apply global, HR best practices whether its for a Singapore-based context, or a MNC-environment.
