Course content

The Master of Health Science encompasses a range of biomedical and health disciplines that underpin advances crucial to human health and wellbeing. It provides you with a unique combination of the three key platforms: public health; advanced study in a related science discipline; and an industry internship. It is taught by the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences.

It provides a pathway for you to further develop your science knowledge, and integrate this knowledge with a solid grounding in Public Health (theory and skills) as well as providing a work practicum in the health industry (for example health promotion, research, policy and administration). This integration enables you to be ‘job-ready’ at the end of your course.

Course description, features and facilities
As a graduate you will have advanced knowledge of Health Sciences that can be applied to both research and professional settings; as well as the capacity to solve problems by applying research methodologies combined with the ability to successfully communicate outcomes to a wide range of audiences.

Knowledge of your discipline and how it is researched will enable you to become its advocate in both specialist and non-specialist settings.

Students must nominate a specialisation on application, the Master of Health Science has specialisations in;

Students may choose to include either a Public Health Practicum or Research Practicum as part of the Master of Health Science.

While the standard timeframe for completion of this degree is two years' (full time), if you have previously completed an undergraduate degree in a cognate (related) area it may be possible to complete within 1.5 years'.

The course offers a focussed, advanced learning experience that will enhance career choices. You must complete all core units and specialisation core units. This degree also provides the flexibility to choose from a range of units to complement your specific interests.
