Undertake a unique approach to public health with our new degree

A new degree launched by the University of Canberra, the Master of Ecological Public Health offers a unique approach to public health training in Australia and reflects the need for an interdisciplinary workforce with a broad range of both primary and specialised skills that extend beyond the traditional biomedical boundaries.

You can tailor your degree to meet your career preferences, whether it be in public or environmental health, urban planning, community development or health promotion and your professional research project, will allow you to fine-tune your skills in the development of health promotion and sustainable environments.

Study a Master of Ecological Public Health at UC and you will:

  • understand the core principles of epidemiology, specifically the measurement of the health status of populations
  • apply an integrated understanding of the key interactions between environmental, ecological and social health determinants to contemporary public health challenges
  • present a coherent and sustained argument of the barriers and enablers that affect the evolution and incorporation of ecological principles and understanding within wider public health and society
  • study the approach, concepts and models used by economists in addressing issues in health and health care
  • be exposed to the breadth of public health practice and practitioners through the study of various public health workforce sectors.

Work integrated learning

In this course, you will undertake a specialised research project as part of the Faculty of Health’s commitment to supporting work integrated learning, which will enhance your employability and ensure you’re armed with the right mix of skills and knowledge to take a super-confident leap into your future career.

Career opportunities

Opportunities exist for Master of Ecological Public Health graduates in a range of sectors, including:

  • Public sector: working in health department administration, disaster preparedness, environmental health, land use and urban planning, sociology or public nursing
  • Education sector: working in education-related roles
  • Private: working for pharmaceutical brands, healthcare organisations or insurance companies
  • Non-profit: working in community development, health promotion or specialising in a specific population, such as minorities, veterans or mothers.
