Master of Commerce with Master of Information Technology

Course content

The Division of Economic and Financial Studies/GACC and the Division of Information and Communication Sciences/PPDP jointly offer the MCom in Information Systems and Technology (MIST) and the Master of Information Technology (MIT) as a double degree program. Successful students will graduate with full recognition by Macquarie University that two postgraduate degrees have been earned.

The MIST/MIT double degree is designed as a career-relevant pathway for postgraduate students wishing to study in the combined areas of business, information systems and information technology. Holding the MIST/MIT postgraduate qualification will be an advantage to graduates seeking work in areas such as business information systems design, information technology management and electronic commerce.

The MIST/MIT double degree requires completion of 12 units.

Students commence the double degree with the MIST component. Progression to the MIT component of the double degree is conditional upon achieving a minimum GPA of 2.75 over the first 24 credit points (six MIST units). Students who do not achieve a 2.75 GPA will transfer to the MIST degree for graduation after meeting MIST degree requirements.

Applicants must have completed sufficient introductory business and introductory information technology units in a prior degree. Applicants without sufficient university level business and information technology studies will be required to complete a preliminary program of four units equivalent to one semester of full-time study.
