This degree is designed to provide special educators with (a) advanced understanding of evidence-based instructional and behavioral interventions and (b) the skills to work with school personnel, parents, and other education professionals to implement those interventions with students. It is a 36-semester hour program; requirements are described below. A maximum of 6 semester hours of approved graduate credit may be transferred from other institutions to meet the requirements.
Prerequisites: Bachelor’s degree EDSP 5003: Psychology of Exceptional Children or an introductory course in special education (undergraduate or graduate level) or equivalent experience
Exceptionalities (9 hours): EDSP 5103: Developmental Disabilities EDSP 5413: Individuals with Learning Disabilities EDSP 5303: Students with Emotional/Behavioral Disorders
Interventions (12 hours): Choose four of the following five classes: EDSP 5053: Principles of Learning for Exceptional Children EDSP 5313: Behavioral Interventions for Students with Disabilities EDSP 5343: Instructional Interventions: Applied Behavior Analysis EDSP 5353: Instructional Interventions: Learning Strategies EDSP 5423: Instructional Interventions for Students with Disabilities
Support (9 hours): EDSP 5033: Using Assessment for Effective Interventions EDSP 5013: Collaborating for Effective Interventions EDSP 5043: Legal and Administrative Issues in Special Education
Research (6 hours): One of the following courses: o ELDR 5203: Research in Education o EDSP 5903: Single-Subject Research EDSP 5973: Professional Paper
