Course content


This degree is designed to provide students with expertise in special education with a focus on effective assessment. After being admitted to the TWU Graduate School and the Teacher Education Special Education Graduate Program, the student should meet with a Special Education faculty member to complete the M.Ed. in Special Education with Educational Diagnostician Certification worksheet.


 Bachelor’s degree
 Texas teaching certification
 Three years’ teaching experience by completion of program (service record on file)
 EDSP 5003: Psychology of Exceptional Children or an introductory course in special education (undergraduate or
graduate level)

 One of the following courses or a course in human development (undergraduate or graduate level)

o FS 5223: Child Growth and Human Development
o FS 5003: Lifespan Human Development
o FS 5113: Theories of Human Development

Exceptionalities (9 hours):
 EDSP 5103: Developmental Disabilities
 EDSP 5413: Individuals with Learning Disabilities
 EDSP 5303: Students with Emotional/Behavioral Disorders

Interventions (6 hours):
 EDSP 5423: Instructional Interventions for Students with Disabilities
 One of the following courses:
o EDSP 5313: Behavioral Interventions for Students with Disabilities
o EDSP 5343: Instructional Interventions: Applied Behavior Analysis

Support (9 hours):
 EDSP 5033: Using Assessment for Effective Interventions
 EDSP 5013: Collaborating for Effective Interventions
 EDSP 5043: Legal and Administrative Issues in Special Education
Assessment (9 hours):

Note: These courses can only be taken after (a) official admission into the TWU Educational Diagnostician Program and (b) obtaining
permission from the instructor.
 EDSP 5833: Clinical Instruction in Psychoeducational Assessment
 EDSP 5843: Clinical Instruction in Intellectual Assessment
 EDSP 5853: Advanced Assessment and Evaluation of Students with Disabilities

Research (6 hours):
