Master of Applied Science (Marine Environment) with Honours

Course content

The Master of Applied Science (Marine Environment) provides graduates with advanced skills and knowledge in the collection, analysis and translation of scientific information for real world outcomes. Specialisation options are available in one of four major streams: FISHERIES MANAGEMENT, AQUACULTURE, MARINE CONSERVATION and AQUATIC ANIMAL HEALTH. Graduates are well positioned to contribute in areas of marine resource and environmental management, science policy, and technical management across a range of marine and maritime industries.Commencing with development of skills and knowledge via eight coursework units, this course concludes by exposing students to independent, research-based study with a two semester (or equivalent) research project. The supervised project refines students' skills and knowledge in knowledge and data integration, synthesis and critiquing skills.

Career Outcomes
Successful completion of this degree will have developed leadership, and management level skills & knowledge for employment across marine/maritime sectors including conservation and environmental management, fisheries and aquaculture production and post-harvest, the tourism industry, shipping and offshore industries, non-governmental organisations and all levels of government from local to global. Graduates of this degree are well suited to leadership and management roles in industrial, governmental, and non-governmental regulatory and policy positions.

Professional Recognition
The Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (IMarEST) has accredited this degree as meeting the further learning requirements, in full, for registration as a Chartered Scientist and Chartered Marine Scientist.

English Language Requirements
International applicants will be required to provide evidence of their English language ability.
For those applicants who are nationals of and currently residing in a country where English is NOT the official language, evidence of an IELTS or TOEFL test must be provided.
Alternatively, applicants can provide evidence that English has been the sole medium of instruction and examination in their most recent studies, for a minimum of 2 years, and within the last 24 months. Academic transcripts and a letter from your institution will be required.
