Master of Applied Science (Agricultural Science)

Course Description

Special Note: This Masters course is not approved by DEEWR for student income support payments (i.e. Youth Allowance and Austudy).The Master of Applied Science (Specialisation) may be completed in 3 or 4 semesters depending on level of qualifications on entry and discipline preparedness of the specific candidate. The MAppSc (Spec) provides students with the opportunity to acquire advanced current knowledge in a specific science discipline. In addition, students will develop a capacity for independent research and problem-solving that can lead to workplace research and/or a degree by higher research (Masters or PhD).

At a general level students completing the MAppSc (Spec) will:
*acquire advanced current knowledge in a discipline offered in the course;
*acquire advanced research skills that can lead to workplace research and/or a HDR course;
*engage in research and development projects in their respective fields;
*be able to apply advanced current knowledge, skill and principles learning in the course to their respective workplace contexts;
*develop an understanding how the field of study can be applied to solve global problems from a scientific perspective.

English Language Requirements
*IELTS 6.0 or above. Students with an IELTSbelow 6.0 will undertake a foundation semester (or equivalent) within the MAppSc focusing on oral and written English and scientific writing.
International applicants will be required to provide evidence of their English language ability.
For those applicants who are nationals of and currently residing in a country where English is NOT the official language, evidence of an IELTS or TOEFL test must be provided.
Alternatively, applicants can provide evidence that English has been the sole medium of instruction and examination in their most recent studies, for a minimum of 2 years, and within the last 24 months. Academic transcripts and a letter from your institution will be required.

Entry Requirements

MAppSc (Spec) 3 Semesters: Bachelor degree in a science field with a major in the specialist discipline; MAppSc (Spec) 4 semesters: Bachelors degree in a science related area, and some background (eg minor sequence) in the specialisation discipline; Additional requirements for some specialisations may apply e.g. for specialisations in Chemistry and Mircobiology, applicants must have laboratory skills to a standard set by the Schools of Chemistry and Agricultural Science. Sound evidence in the application must be provided.
