This program focuses on research across the concerns related to language in applied contexts. It is available by coursework, a combination of coursework and a minor thesis, or by research. Majors include Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), Languages Other than English (LOTE) teaching, and intercultural communication.
This is a teacher development course and is appropriate if youre teaching at any level. It will add a specialist qualification or lead to further study opportunities in the broad field of education or applied linguistics.
English Language Requirements
IELTS (Academic): minimum score of 6.5 with no individual band score less than 6.0.
TOEFL Paper-based Test: minimum score of 575 (minimum score of 5 in the Test of Written English).
TOEFL Internet-based Test: minimum score of 80 with minimum overall for SLR 18; W 22.
La Trobe Melbourne (ELICOS): Completion of the English for Further Studies Advanced Stage 6B at La Trobe Melbourne with minimum 60 per cent overall and 60 per cent in final exam. For more information please visit the La Trobe Melbourne website.
English as the language of instruction in tertiary studies may be accepted.

A three or four-year Australian Bachelor's degree, or approved international equivalent. If you have a four-year Bachelor of Education, an Honours degree or a relevant specialist Graduate Diploma from a recognised university or institution, you may be eligible for 60 credit points of Advanced Standing (credit).
