Course content

The Master in Development Studies aims to provide students with the methodological and theoretical skills and knowledge, both disciplinary and interdisciplinary, which enable them to approach the major themes in the area of development in a pertinent manner.

The Programme offers an interdisciplinary approach focussing on development policies and practices. Students of the MDEV acquire an in-depth knowledge and expertise in North-South relations and global development issues, including: climate change and environmental damage, natural resources and energy supply, security and armed conflict, migration and diasporas, globalisation, poverty and inequality, public health, commercial and financial flows and development. Core classes cover anthropological, economical, environmental, gender, health and poverty issues. Candidates complete two-years of full time studies (120 credits ECTS) broken down in core, complementary and elective courses and write a field-work oriented research dissertation. Candidates can acquire credits through an internship and/or spend one semester during the second year of studies in a partner institution.
