About the course

This course emphasises applied critical thinking and analysis, helping to equip you with the necessary skills to thrive in a career in marketing.

The course is designed to enhance your knowledge and understanding of marketing. It is relevant for you if you have already studied marketing as part of another course and want to continue to develop your specialist knowledge, or if you are new to marketing having studied a degree in another subject. The course focuses on contemporary issues and provides the opportunity for you to put marketing theory into practice through the use of live case studies and projects.

We have a vibrant and diverse student learning environment, with a focus on meeting the creative and analytical challenges posed by modern marketing. Key areas of study include Strategic Marketing Management and Contemporary Consumer Engagement. Further specialisation and an opportunity to pursue an area that interests you or which you are passionate about is available through your choice of multidisciplinary option modules and the research.

Additional information

Exposure to various activities at the University of Huddersfield will enrich your knowledge and skills. An intensive induction pre-course workshop, which will be held in September and January, provides you with an in-depth insight into your course; helps promote an interactive environment between fellow students and meet with your tutors.

The core modules are generally taught and assessed using case studies in lectures and seminars and in some modules group project-based work. Tutors are experts in their field and with many having practical experience in industry and the professions which helps combine your academic knowledge with practical application. Many aspects of teaching and assessment are grounded in real life situations and, where possible, live projects are incorporated into the teaching.

Whether you’re progressing from education or currently working within the industry, our postgraduate courses aim to provide you with the required knowledge, skills and experience; as well as challenge your approach to complex situations. By providing practical project experience, team working opportunities and specialist knowledge of your chosen pathway, we can help develop your ability to work collaboratively and apply theory to real-life situations.

Career options cover the breadth of marketing activity from commercial brand management to public sector social marketing. For example, recent graduates are now working as assistant product managers in catering, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals; regional sales manager in animal health; and marketing manager in industrial supplies.

Further study

Opportunities for course progression include the traditional PhD or a Master’s by Research; a one year, full-time research degree. It contains little or no formal taught component and is attractive if you want a briefer research-based degree or prepare for a full PhD.
