Course content

Our MSc in Marketing will deepen and advance your understanding of core marketing theories and concepts whilst providing you with a desirable skill-set valued by the marketing industry.

The course differs from many other marketing Masters programmes as it has been designed to:

-Draw on the research interests of the marketing faculty and address the three core elements of marketing today: Marketing to Consumers, Marketing to Businesses and Organizations and Marketing and Society.

-Deepen and advance your understanding of core marketing theories and concepts.

-Balance theory with practical application.

-Systematically develop key business skills including group working skills, project management skills and presentation skills.

-Leverage the expertise of nationally and internationally recognised faculty who have successfully published in the world’s top marketing journals and have many years of practical marketing experience between them.

Course structure

Our MSc in Marketing is an intensive full-time degree lasting 12 months.

It is divided into two semesters and the summer period which runs from June to September.

During semester 1, all students study the same five core units. Semester 2 is made up of 4 further core units and then you may choose 1 further option.

Semester one, core units:

Marketing and society; Consumer psychology; Marketing to businesses and organisations; Strategic marketing; Advertising theory and practice

Semester two, core units:

Strategic brand management; E-marketing, International marketing across cultures; Research methods for marketing

Dissertation or Practice Track

In the final three months of the degree you can choose the dissertation track or practice track.

Dissertation track:

The dissertation is a 9,000-12,000 word piece of individual research, supervised by a member of faculty. You will plan and execute your own project, using techniques learned throughout the year.

Practice track:

The practice track is a team project that allows you to work with one of our partner organisations to solve a real business challenge. You will apply the theory and skills you have learned to a practical issue and present your work to the company.
