Student Profiles

Rebecca Weyers

After my bachelor's degree I started working in a marketing position at a multinational company. It was interesting but I wanted to have more in-depth knowledge about the field I was working in. My managers advised me to pursue a master's degree as they knew it would help me to move up the career ladder. I wanted to study Marketing at a university that would foster practice-oriented thinking and offer an international, friendly learning environment. The University of Bath embodied exactly this mix. The MSc in Marketing also scores very well in international rankings - so my decision was made.

A typical week on the MSc in Marketing includes lectures, which are given by highly professional lecturers and research leaders in their fields. It also includes a lot of individual study time and group meetings to master your different course projects. The School of Management has all the facilities you will need to deliver essays and presentations you will be proud of.

My MSc helped me to develop a completely new perspective on marketing . Thanks to the variety of units, I was able to learn about all kinds of marketing areas and philosophies. From a skills perspective, I learned a lot about how to time manage myself and how to work in an international environment. I had many different projects with teams whose members had different cultural backgrounds. I think that this working environment is representative of what I can expect in the future and I am grateful that I had the opportunity to experience it during my master's degree.

Although Bath is quite a small city, it is incredibly lively and offers so much. As a nature lover, I enjoyed the hiking paths in the area as well as the cycling track which connects Bath with Bristol. The city centre also has a lot to offer for music lovers, coffee enthusiasts and architecture fans (being constantly surrounded by beautiful Georgian architecture is something that you can't find anywhere else).

Currently, I'm working as a Marketing Executive in Bristol. My MSc in Marketing showed me so many aspects of the field and I'm convinced that I will be able to apply everything that I have learned.

Choosing to pursue my MSc in Management with a specialisation in Marketing has been one of the best decisions that I've made for my career. It has given me a great kick-start in the professional world of business and management and opened new doors of opportunities for me on an international level.

Throughout my MSc in Marketing, the University and the School of Management made it very clear to me that I could count on their support. I could tell that by offering a masters in sustainability and things like the Community Challenge the School cares about doing good things and inspiring students.

My degree has been a busy, interesting and amazing experience. I’m not just talking about the course, but also the many sporting activities I did, my work as academic rep, the Future Business Challenge, and many other things. I am beyond happy with my experience because the University makes it easy to seize opportunities and supports you in making the most of your time here.

The connection with the working world is something I find really unique about the University. It partners with a huge range of companies and lets us meet these organisations. Through competitions like the Future Business Challenge, we gain a clear view of what is happening in the workplace. This means we can apply what we learn on the course to the real world.

I’ve enjoyed living in such a beautiful city with so much history. The whole student atmosphere in Bath is very welcoming. The city has lots of beautiful places to discover and enjoy. What I enjoyed most is that Bath is kind of a hidden gem to me. I had never heard of Bath before and when I explored it for the first time, it was like a whole new world opened up.

My best experience has been meeting so many great and inspiring people from all around the world. I’ve also enjoyed gaining knowledge from amazing professors and most importantly broadening my horizons.
