Management and Leadership in Health and Social Care MSc

Course Description

Do you work as a manager in a health-related field? Do you want to improve your leadership skills for social care? Then we're here to get you started. Our masters level programme is ideal for those managing, leading or supervising at a strategic level within health and social care organisations. By focusing on your own workplace, we'll show you how to conceptualise theories and principles with management and leadership practices that are most effective for your work setting. You'll be able to study at your own pace through our excellent learning distance facilities and therefore continue to earn while you learn.

You will need to complete an induction prior to commencement of your first module. We have a comprehensive online induction package to welcome you to both the university and your programme of study. Alternatively, classroom-based induction days take place at our Lancaster and Carlisle campuses and are usually scheduled for the first week of each semester.

Course outline

We offer a distinctive masters programme that provides the chance to critically review, consolidate and extend knowledge and application of a range of management and leadership theories and skill. By building on key skills, you'll demonstrate a mastery in the application of innovative approaches to effective collaborative and partnership working. We encourage the development of intellectual, analytical and problem-solving skills to support the advancement of mature and independent decision-making and judgement.

Entry Requirements

1st or 2nd class honours degree. Students with other qualifications may be admitted to the course via Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL) procedures. It is envisaged that students accessing this programme will be managers or team leaders within health and social care, and will therefore come to the programme with experience and expertise in their field. It is hoped that this experience will contribute to the process of learning and enhance the learning experience.
