This programme is for people who have may not have had any formal education for some time, or they may be looking for a stepping stone to other courses or they require practical leadership and management skills they can return to work and apply immediately. Through this programme, you explore the latest techniques, skills and thinking appropriate to modern management and leadership practice. By completing this programme, you will receive not only a University Certificate but also a Diploma in Leadership awarded by the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM).
You can complete this course in six months and then have the opportunity to progress onto a postgraduate Master’s programme.

From a business/organisational improvement perspective -One assignment involves the development of a Business/Organisational Improvement Project - this project will be based on the student’s current organisation where possible, and will be supported by senior academics and practitioners at the University. -The assignment will apply the leadership, project management, financial analysis and operational management knowledge gathered both on the course and in the workplace for the benefit of both the Individual and the organisation.
From an organisational perspective -The business/organisational improvement project identifies and analyses a part of the organisation, which would benefit from a project improvement programme. As part of the process, a Project Plan is developed and agreed with the University and the organisation. This plan will relate to the scope, depth, academic rigour and demonstrate benefit to the organisation.
About the Course
This Pre-Masters, dual award Certificate in Professional Studies is a pathway onto the University’s extensive Masters and MBA programmes, and also a formal recognition for personal and professional development in the workplace.
It provides both an academic and professional award for those who have significant work experience, but no formal university education. Underpinned with the latest techniques in management, leadership and project management practice, the Certificate is designed to build on your previous work experience and lead to improved business performance and personal development. By completing this programme, you will receive a Certificate in Professional Studies from Manchester Met, and a Diploma in Management, awarded by the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM).
This programme is taught at the Business School through a range of workshops and project-based assignments by professionally qualified staff with relevant academic and workplace experience.
There are no examinations - this programme is assessed wholly through assignments. A continuous learning log and a range of work-based projects make up the assessment of this course. Supporting a developmental learning approach whereby you are encouraged to: -Take your learning into the workplace to benefit your individual learning and organisation -Apply and test new learning techniques -Reflect upon the outcomes of your learning to make further improvements -Add value to your organisation by identifying an organisational/business improvement project
There are no formal entry requirements for this course in terms of qualifications. Applicants should have extensive work place experience and at least 2-3 years in a managerial, supervisory, team leader or a deputising role.
