- Description -
Hispanic Studies at Kent is concerned with the culture and literature of the Spanish-speaking world, whether in Europe or Latin America, as well as engaging with related Iberian cultures and languages, namely Portuguese and Catalan. The literary component of this MA programme is taught in conjunction with the Department of Comparative Literature, while the cultural component of the course benefits from the diverse expertise of staff in the Department of Modern Languages.
- Purpose -
This programme is only currently available for part-time study. The programme is ideal for students of modern languages wishing to take their study further, students of literature wanting to gain an international perspective, or anyone interested in the cultures emerging from the world’s most widely spoken language.
- Format and assessment -
This programme aims to provide you with a good understanding of modern Spanish and Spanish- American society. It consists of two parts: a literary element, which is taught in conjunction with the MA in Hispanic and Comparative Literature, and a cultural element which is a distinctive part of this MA. We teach all subject options in Spanish, but accept written work in both English and Spanish.
Assessment is by 4-6,000 words of written work per module and the dissertation.
The Department of Modern Languages is committed to developing your employability through a wide range of School events. Our graduates develop skills highly prized by employers in industry and the public sector, including oral and written communication, intellectual skills, and intercultural awareness and understanding.
Recent Hispanic Studies graduates have gone on to work in areas such as media, publishing, public administration, charities and voluntary work, education and teaching in the UK and around the world.
