Course Description

Throughout the course, you will be encouraged to take a critical perspective on current theory and practice, to analyse complex problems and to devise creative solutions to those problems, and to develop the skills needed to conduct research into HRM issues. They will be expected to take responsibility for their own learning, to contribute to the learning of others and to be reflective practitioners.

The course also meets the Advanced Level knowledge requirements of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) for entry into a professional membership grade.

Course detail

You will use an Individual Learning Plan from the start of the course, intended to support progress, and each student is required to submit with their Dissertation a refl ective log of learning during the project.

• HRM in Context
• Managing People
• Developing Skills for Management
• People Resourcing and Talent Management
• Employment Law
• Learning and Talent Development
• Dissertation.

You will learn through a number of methods. We will use the most important resource available to us: you and your fellow students, who bring a wide variety of backgrounds, academic achievements, and knowledge and experience of HRM. This provides a real opportunity for everyone on the course, including the tutors, to learn with and from each other in a challenging but essentially 'safe' environment.

Career and study progression

When you study on this course, you may already be working in the HRM/people management field. This course is designed to enhance your abilities in your current job role, and to prepare you for promotion.

When you pass, you can apply for individual Chartered Membership of the CIPD. This grade of membership is regarded as essential for progression into HR management and consultancy. Anecdotal evidence suggests that students who complete this course, and thereby gain professional membership of the CIPD, are successful in furthering their careers in the HR profession. Some of our former students are now the line managers of current students.

If, after finishing this course, you want to go onto our MBA course, you may be exempt from some of its modules.
