MA in Statistics

Course Description

This programme is intended for students with a numerate background but who may have insufficient background knowledge to gain entry to the MSc programme.

The MA in Statistics is of 16 months durations (4 semesters) and will bring students to the same level as the 1 year MSc degree in Statistics. Currently students without sufficient statistical background knowledge can attain Masters level proficiency by first completing the Higher Diploma in Statistics followed by the MSc in Statistics, which together takes 2 years. The MA in Statistics provides an alternative pathway in 16 months. There is no comparable programme in Ireland or the UK.

This programme runs for 16 months or 4 semesters (Full time)/ 32 months or 8 semesters (Part time)

Scholarships will be awarded to academically exceptional students and high-calibre graduates working in industry. The awards will cover a portion of the tuition fees per candidate.

Applicants must have completed the application process to the course of their choice and fulfilled all the necessary admissions requirements. Scholarships will be awarded on academic merit.

Application Procedure

No separate application is required. All eligible applicants who complete their programme application by 31 st May 2016 will be considered for the scholarship.

Entry Requirements

Applicants must be graduates who are familiar with the basics of the statistical approach. At least a second class honours degree (or equivalent) in Statistics or a quantitative subject area is required for entry.
