About the course

BECOME AN ANALYTICALLY SKILLED ‘AGENT OF CHANGE’

How do gender, race, class, sexuality and age contribute to the formation of social identities? What role do ensuing power differences between these factors play in our globalised and mediatised world? What measures have been taken, in the past and the present, in order to prevent discrimination and exclusion? And how do academic, cultural, artistic, journalistic, and policy-making institutions respond to these societal challenges?

Entry Requirements

Knowledge of and insight in genderstudies and its epistemological foundations at Bachelor's level, as shown by having taken at least 30 EC worth of courses in genderstudies and/or postcolonial/ethnicity/cultural studies, with an emphasis on genderstudies.

Knowledge of research methods in the field of the humanities and/or social sciences at Bachelor's level. This can be demonstrated by a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in the Humanities or Social Sciences, but also in further practical activities in the field of gender/women’s studies.

- Not hold an EU/EEA passport and not be eligible for support under the Dutch system of study grants and loans
- Never before have been enrolled at an educational institution in the Netherlands
- Have applied for an international master’s programme at Utrecht University
- Meet the specific entry requirements of the programme

Eligibility

Students who hold an EU/EEA passport (including Dutch), and
- have applied for a Master’s Programme at Utrecht University (only UU students can receive a Bright Minds Fellowship)
- will be starting their Master’s Programme at Utrecht University in September 2018
- will be working to complete their first Master’s degree
- have shown academic achievement in their previous studies
- bring an element of diversity to the UU community

Application Procedure

Complete the online application form before February 1.

The applications are reviewed by the Bright Minds selection committee. The committee considers:
academic achievement, as shown by grades and (if available) GRE or GMAT scores. Personal background, as demonstrated by a variety of factors, including but not limited to educational experience, socio-economic background, cultural heritage, race and ethnicity interpersonal skills, as demonstrated by extracurricular activities, community service and work experience
