This MA will appeal to graduates wishing to develop a theoretical and practical understanding of the business and innovation skills necessary to effectively compete in regional, national and international creative industries. We welcome applicants from a range of discipline backgrounds including, but not limited to, Music/Music Technology, Moving Image, Graphic Design, Fashion, Games, Animation, Fine Art, Dance and Theatre.
A distinctive feature of this programme is the opportunity for students to apply their studies directly to their own professional and creative activities, whether in an existing industry role or context or through a new business start-up initiative.
Part-time delivery facilitated through distance-learning will enable students to balance their studies with professional commitments, offering a flexible approach to accommodate a wide range of individual backgrounds.
Access to studios, professional equipment and other physical resources will be available on campus, but the programme will primarily be facilitated through a comprehensive e-learning environment that will support remote learning online.
This programme is designed to accommodate applicants working, or intending to work, in the creative industries. It will furnish you with the requisite skills in business and entrepreneurship to support an effective and informed approach to succeeding in your chosen area within the creative industries.
Course Content and Structure
The programme is modular and flexible and therefore enables students to explore advanced techniques that will further build on their subject expertise and career trajectory. Modules of study include:
Creative & Cultural Industries Creative Practice Entrepreneurship Business Practice Dissertation or Major Project Modules are delivered by skilled practitioners from both the School of Arts and the School of Business and Management. Students should be able to apply their modules within an industrial context but may also make use of facilities and resources on campus at University Centre Doncaster. Incubators for start-up business enterprises are available for those progressing directly from undergraduate study or who are not presently working in the industry.
The programme is delivered through distance-learning and online mentoring using video conferencing, master classes, course learning materials and the course virtual learning environment. For those living close to the campus face-to-face learning and mentoring is also available
