The Department of Psychology at Central Washington University is excited to offer a Master's degree in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). The Behavior Analyst Certification Board, Inc.® (BACB) has approved our course sequence as meeting the coursework requirements for eligibility to take the Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) Examination®. Applicants have to meet additional requirements to fully qualify for certification. These requirements are outlined on the BACB website.
In addition to the formal coursework, the CWU ABA program arranges one academic year of supervised internship. Most students are hired by local agencies during their internship and remain with these agencies following graduation in order to complete the remaining fieldwork hours required for certification. Most students finish their fieldwork hours within 6-9 months of graduation and receive promotions as BCBAs within their agencies.
Students enrolled in this program will be prepared for future doctoral study or for work at the Master’s level with a variety of populations, such as individuals with autism or intellectual disabilities, children with pediatric feeding disorders, individuals with traumatic brain injuries, and at-risk adolescents, to name a few. Our students are trained using a scientist-practitioner model that emphasizes both clinical skills and an understanding of the research underlying ABA interventions. Degree requirements focus on integrating foundational and specialized coursework with hands-on experience.
