Course content

This course is for students with an undergraduate degree in any subject who want a qualification in linguistics. Students also write a research dissertation on a topic of their own choice. To help them achieve this, the programme has a compulsory module on Research Training which includes training in specific linguistic research and general social science research. This is complemented by research and transferable skills training from the University’s Graduate Training Programme. Students who have a BA in Linguistics may be exempt from compulsory modules which they have already covered as part of their first degree, or may prefer to follow one of the other MA courses offered by the School.

Students must take 180 credits in total from the lists below:

Compulsory modules: students who show evidence of already having covered the material in these modules may select alternative modules in consultation with the Programme Director.

Modules
The modules for this degree vary each year, but a wide selection is offered from various different fields of Linguistics, including modules covering key concepts as well as more applied areas.

Visit the Linguistics (MA) page on the Bangor University website for more details!
