Course Description

Lancashire Law School has over fifty academic staff, who are able to provide the expertise to cover all facets of the discipline of law for undergraduate, postgraduate and professional programmes. Many tutors have national and international reputations in their specialist fields. The Law School is well served by the centrally sited library and excellent range of both paper-based and electronic legal materials.

LEARNING ENVIRONMENT AND ASSESSMENT

Teachings and Learning is predominantly through weekly synchronous and asynchronous online workshops. The learning ethos is to draw on the range and experience of our diverse student cohort.

Our extensive e-law library facility gives access to many legal and academic sources from within and outside the jurisdiction.

Modules are assessed by coursework which comprises of a 1000 word essay plan which feeds into a 3000 word essay. This method of assessment has proved very popular with students as it provides useful feedback for their final submissions.

The course is supported by the University’s web-based Blackboard facility with ICT an integral part of the programme. The University subscribes to extensive electronic legal data bases and journals while all students are registered users of UCLan’s network with a dedicated network space accessible remotely.

The LLM Law is available to students from both a legal and non-legal background. The programme has a strong emphasis on flexibility of choice. Students have diverse backgrounds, needs and aspirations and this course allows them to design a programme of study, at a suitable postgraduate level, to meet those needs. Law is a fast-changing and increasingly complex area that impacts on most aspects of professional, commercial and regulatory work.

This programme provides students with analytical and reflective skills and expertise in law. It provides a learning experience which will enable students to develop their academic ability and enhance their performance in employment and further develop their career opportunities. It provides the successful candidate with a recognised postgraduate qualification in law.

Entry Requirements

A bachelor degree with Honours at lower second class or above or a professional qualification deemed to be degree equivalent; Other qualifications or specific training and/or experience may also be considered if the applicant is able to demonstrate his/her suitability for the course and to provide evidence as appropriate; Where English is not the applicants first language then a score of 6.5 on IELTS (with no individual component below 6.0) or equivalent.
