We offer an exciting and stimulating set of postgraduate law programmes, each of which prepares you for a variety of careers. If you are interested in studying law beyond your undergraduate degree level and want to develop your analytical, research and legal writing skills, you will find Bristol’s LLM to be a challenging and rewarding experience. We have a large and vibrant international community and our LLM students benefit from small class sizes taught by world-renowned experts.

Our LLM programmes give you the opportunity to specialise in a particular area but you can also opt for a broader and more general set of unit choices. In all cases, you are encouraged to explore your chosen areas of law at a deeper level. You will have the chance to see how these legal fields operate in different contexts, considering the relevant issues theoretically and practically and from a range of perspectives.

This programme offers you a huge choice of units - you may choose four from any that are offered within our specialist LLM programmes. The programme gives you a chance to explore a broad range of legal areas and opens doors to a variety of legal and other careers, both within the UK and further afield.

For further information about the Law School, visit our Why Bristol Law School? web page, which includes short videos.

Programme structure

You will select four units from the list offered across our LLM programmes (120 credit points overall, 30 credit points each) and a compulsory dissertation (60 credit points).

Visit our programme catalogue for full details of the structure and unit content for our LLM in General Legal Studies.

Careers

This LLM programme gives you the chance to explore a broad range of legal areas and therefore opens the door to a large variety of legal and other professions, both within the UK and further afield. Graduates go on to act as solicitors, barristers, lawyers and researchers in international and European organisations, such as the United Nations or the European Commission. A number work for NGOs and other agencies. Some graduates go on to further study or research in other universities.

Please visit our Careers and Employability and Student Society web pages for more information about the support and opportunities we provide during your studies.
