536.jpg Having completed my MA in Ancient History in 2007 I am now in the process of joining the army! Obviously this is a very different change in direction so how is my MA helping me? Firstly, even though I will not be using the knowledge I gained during the MA, it has enabled me to demonstrate that I have the commitment and intelligence to see a long, difficult and challenging task through to completion. Secondly, the MA puts me in an excellent position to carry on studying the ancient world if I decide to return to academic life in the future. Last, but certainly not least however, is the fact that studying for the MA under the guidance of the fantastic staff of the Lampeter Classics department has increased my understanding, knowledge and enjoyment of the ancient world beyond measure

Carrie Bates

“I am largely a self-directed learner, so the distance programme suits me to a T. Faculty and other contacts have been friendly and helpful when I needed help. It’s a very supportive environment without being intrusive.

“American PG Distance Latin programmes are almost non-existent, and those that are have stern, forbidding websites. The website for UWTSD has a friendly feel to it; I had the impression that the programme was geared toward accommodating students rather than vice versa. I teach history and philosophy at a small American university, and my approach is to make students feel as welcome as possible. When necessary, I accommodate their unique circumstances so that they have every chance to succeed in their coursework. UWTSD seemed to exemplify that same approach. It felt like it would be a good fit for me and so it has proved to be!” - Carrie Bates, PG Cert Latin (online), Potsdam, New York, USA
