Course content

Journalism is an exciting, competitive and rapidly developing industry.

Our course equips you with the strong professional journalism skills and attitude necessary to achieve your career ambitions. This MA brings together nationally recognised practice-based learning with the critical rigour of postgraduate academic study.

Learn how to:
-Turn out engaging copy against tight deadlines
-Record, film and edit material for broadcast
-Contextualise journalistic practice within a theoretical framework of journalism studies
-Understand transitional processes in the news landscape

How will I study?
You’ll learn through core modules and options in the autumn and spring terms. In the summer, you develop a research project that can take the form of a conventional dissertation or a journalism project.

-NCTJ exams
-Term papers
-Portfolios of journalism
-Multimedia artefacts
-Social media
-Critical reflections on practical work and examinations

Chancellor's International Scholarship (2017)
-25 scholarships of a 50% tuition fee waiver
-Application deadline: 1 May 2017

HESPAL Scholarship (Higher Education Scholarships Scheme for the Palestinian Territories) (2017)
-Two full fee waivers in conjuction with maintenance support from the British Council
-Application deadline: 1 January 2017

USA Friends Scholarships (2017)
-A scholarship of an amount equivalent to $10,000 for nationals or residents of the USA on a one year taught Masters degree course.
-Application deadline: 3 April 2017

You will be taught and supervised by faculty from the Department of Media and Film. Elements of our degrees are taught by experienced journalists at Brighton Journalist Works.

This degree equips you with the knowledge and skills for professional entry-level journalism.
