Studying a Postgraduate Certificate in Interprofessional Practice Education will:‌

  • Foster your skills in relation to the learning, teaching and assessing of students‌
  • Give you a qualification that meets the  Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) standards, to support learning and assessment in practice for both Practice Teacher and Nurse Teacher Status ‌
  • Engage your passion and expertise as you study alongside other health professionals
  • Develop your knowledge and teaching skills across many contexts, from higher education to clinical practice, so you can have the skills you'll need to enhance your career.

If you are a professional in health and social care, with a teaching aspect to your role and you’re keen to develop your skills and knowledge in education within your practice setting, then this course will help you to be at the forefront of professional practice education. Your current workplace will be the focus of your learning, so before you can study this course, you'll need to be able to facilitate learning in your practice environment and have the full support from your employer.

Although this course is open to all healthcare professionals, it meets the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) standards to support learning and assessment in practice for both Practice Teacher and NMC Teacher status qualifications. If you are already registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council and complete the whole course, you will meet the requirements for NMC teacher status. If you study just the practice teacher module while supporting a district nurse, health visitor, or school nurse student, you will be able to apply for practice teacher status (Nursing and Midwifery Council standards to support Learning and Assessment in Practice 2008).

The course is also approved by the Higher Education Academy (HEA) as meeting the UK professional standards framework for teaching and supporting learning, so you can be sure that what you learn is up-to-date and relevant.

You will be eligible to apply for associate or fellowship of HEA when you graduate from the course. You will benefit from learning alongside a range of health professionals to help you to develop the professional, academic, and personal skills needed in educational practice.

How you will learn

We use a variety of teaching and learning methods, including a mixture of face to face learning and learning using web based and electronic tools. You will also take part in group work and reflective practice, which means you’ll consider how you have developed and applied your knowledge.

How you're assessed

Assessment is by your peers and the group, as well as through the reflective portfolios that you develop during the course. When you graduate you will be able to manage and deliver a range of learning activities within practice learning or academic environments.

Careers

When you graduate you'll be able to effectively co-ordinate and organise a range of learning activities within practice learning environments or academic environments. You'll also be able to support interprofessional learning and working in the context of modern healthcare whilst your experience on the course will also open up a range of opportunities for employment as a clinical educator or within higher education institutions.
