Course content

International Trade Law and Treaty Negotiation with Professional Skills can be studied by blended learning and on campus at Aberdeen. In this blended learning programme you are offered two very closely connected disciplines which widen your perspective and analytical abilities internationally.

The programme offers online learning with a summer school on campus to help you get the most from this specialised area of law. The Law School is ranked 10th in the UK (The Complete University Guide 2018) and law has been taught at University of Aberdeen since the inauguration of Kings College in 1495. You will learn about the sale of goods to and from different countries in terms of legal agreements, World Trade Organisation rules and regulations and international trade negotiation plus management of international sales and terms. You can also study arbitration to assist in smooth running of your respective company or negotiations. This is an exciting area of international law in which there will be plenty of challenges to apply your skills and training to. Your degree is further enhanced with the top level knowledge of treaty negotiation which can be applied within businesses, governments and other organisations.

This programme provides living contemporary history due to the changes in borders, regions and countries around the world. In this region the exit of the UK from the EU has provided sufficient interest in the complexities of trade negotiations and legal requirements within regions. Your skills and knowledge can be applied at top level strategic government and policy level through to negotiating treaties and changes to legal requirements at country level. You can also apply your knowledge and analytical ability within international business and other organisations that need to understand the complexities involved in order to make strategic business decisions.

The School of Law offers you academic expertise from practicing and experienced legal experts. Many of the academics have researched and supported understanding in their respective areas at international level. The School provides an energetic range of centres which include: The Centre for Energy Law, Centre for Private International Law, and The Civil Law Centre. Research groups include: Commercial Law and Intellectual Property, Criminal Law and Justice, Energy and Environment Law, Legal History and Scots Law, Public International Law, and Public Law and Legal Theory. The School is a member of the Scottish University Law Clinic
