Course Description

Course Overview

Developed by leading UK academics, this course is aimed at delivering the range of professional project management skills laid down by Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).

Major multinational and overseas projects require professionals with multi-faceted skills who can operate in a variety of cultural and socio-economic settings around the world. This one year course provides a wealth of skills development in the areas of integration and scope management, corporate social responsibility, time and cost management, and international project finance.

Accredited by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), it is highly relevant for those wishing to pursue a career in construction project management internationally. Indeed, a recent collaboration with Hill International has confirmed the course modular structure as being a suitable learning experience for international construction project managers.


Many industries have seen exponential growth in recent years in both international and multinational collaborations. These projects require highly skilled professionals who are capable of taking up challenging roles in a range of specialist areas

Several students are attracted to this programme to widen their opportunities within the employment market, as MSc graduates are more likely to attract the higher end of graduate starting salaries.

The course is fully accredited by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), allowing successful MSc graduates to progress directly to the assessment of professional competence.

Programme Performance

The MSc International Project Management programme began in 2005 to address the need for project management professional in managing increasingly complex projects.

The School of Engineering and Built Environment at Glasgow Caledonian is the largest of its kind in Scotland and regularly produces more construction and surveying graduates than any other university in the UK.

It is ranked in the top 20 UK universities for research in the Architecture and the Built Environment subject area and is highly regarded in Scotland for its innovative teaching and learning methods. It has extensive links with the construction industry which it supports through consultancy, knowledge exchange and a flow of highly employable graduates.

Michael Tong is the Programme Leader for the MSc International Project Management and the MSc Construction Management programmes. He has worked in a number of high profile projects in the Far East, including the Hong Kong Airport and Shanghai Times Square.
