International Organisations and Crisis Management (IOCM)

Friedrich Schiller University of Jena    Masters Programmes

Full time October MA 2 years

About the course

The Master´s degree International Organisations and Crisis Management is the only programme in Germany and one of very few in Europe that focus on the following three areas. First, you will learn about the goals, tasks, structures, cultures and norms of international governmental and non-governmental organisations. Second, you will become familiar with the potentials and limits of international crisis management, by which we understand the efforts to settle violent conflicts as well as the governance of issues such as pandemics, climate change, natural disasters and financial crises. Third, you will study whether and how international organisations (together with states and other actors) are able to tackle these crises, what challenges of effectiveness and legitimacy may arise in the process, and how, sometimes, this plunges international organisations themselves into crises.
