"My journey with the University of Brighton started in 2010 when I joined the Hospitality Management BA(Hons) programme with a view of gaining academic knowledge to complement my two-year professional experience in the hospitality industry.
"During this degree I was able to acquire management skills and a more thorough understanding of this exciting and vibrant industry through, for instance, practical work in the Culinary Arts Studio, and learn from passionate lecturers whose desire to teach and grow as academics soon became contagious. After another year in the industry, where I utilised the skills and knowledge gained during the undergraduate degree, I came back to continue my education on the MSc, which for me was the stepping stone into academia.
"Because of the extensive support and encouragement from my lecturers, I successfully completed my masters with a distinction. I then embarked on a PhD, which I was awarded in September 2016 (Career Paths in Hospitality: A Life History Approach).
"My time at the University of Brighton has been truly life changing. Being surrounded by staff who are experts in their fields, and who truly want you to succeed and always motivate you to persevere is invaluable. I would not have grown as an individual and an academic without their continuing support.
"In August 2016 I began my academic career as a lecturer in hospitality management at the University of Greenwich."
