International Hospitality Management (Euromasters) - MSc

Course Description

Our School of Hospitality and Tourism Management offers a fresh, dynamic outlook, unsurpassed industry connections, a leading international reputation and a remarkable track record in graduate employment.

Our two-year Euromasters programme combines a comprehensive education in international hospitality management with the opportunity to undertake valuable work experience in the sector.


This programme addresses, from an international perspective, the various elements of the hospitality industry and their interrelationships.

You will graduate equipped with the skills to evaluate and analyse the international hospitality sector from a managerial, operational and organisational perspective.

The structure of our Euromasters programme includes the opportunity to undertake a placement in industry between the two years of study.

This experience gives students (particularly those with little prior work experience) a significant advantage in terms of employability upon graduation.

You will also, through optional modules and your dissertation, be able to tailor your education to your career aspirations.


This programme is studied full-time over two academic years. It consists of twelve taught modules and a dissertation. The following modules are indicative, reflecting the information available at the time of publication. Please note that not all modules described are compulsory and may be subject to teaching availability and/or student demand.

The aims of the new programme are to provide:
-A high quality education, which is intellectually rigorous and up-to-date, as well as relevant to the needs of future managers, executives and professionals in the hospitality industry
-A business management orientation related to the hospitality business drawing on a range of cognate areas of study to explain and analyse this particular sector
-An integrated approach so as to provide a coherent view that explores the interrelationships between the various components of the programme, but at the same time by way of elective modules permits students to pursue an extra element of specialisation relevant to their backgrounds, interests and/or career aspirations
-An international perspective both in scope and coverage
-Up to date information that draws on the stimulus of the School’s recent research activities
-Students with the basis for developing their own approach to learning and personal development


Knowledge and understanding
-Critically evaluate the development, characteristics, issues and influences relevant to strategic hospitality management
-Analyse and debate theoretical and applied knowledge in the strategic management, operation, organisation and provision of hospitality services
-Evaluate critically a wide range of approaches and techniques relevant to strategic management in the hospitality sector
-Evaluate outcomes and accurately assess/report on their own/others work with justification and relate them to existing knowledge structures and methodologies

Intellectual / cognitive skills
-Demonstrate high level learning and problem solving skills
-Conduct research and produce a high quality report: this includes the ability to select, define and focus upon and issue at an appropriate level; to develop and apply relevant and sound methodologies; to analyse the issue; to develop recommendations and logical conclusions; to be aware of the limitations of research work
-Identify modifications to existing knowledge structures and theoretical frameworks and to propose new areas for investigations/ new problems / new or alternative applications and methodological approaches

Professional practical skills
-Handle ethical dilemmas likely to arise in management, research and professional practice and to formulate solutions in dialogue with peers, clients, mentors and others

Key / transferable skills
Display a range of skills relevant to the needs of existing and future managers, executives and professionals irrespective of their sector of operation, particularly in the areas of:

If you are a self-funded UK, EU or international student who has studied for an undergraduate degree at the University of Surrey campus in Guildford, you could be eligible for a ten per cent discount on our taught postgraduate Masters programme fees. This scheme is for applicable to Postgraduate Taught entry students only and is reviewed annually.Students who graduated in 2013 are eligible, as well as alumni from previous years, on receipt of evidence of the award from Surrey and where we can identify that you actually studied in Guildford. Students from SII-DUFE are eligible for this scheme.Associated Institution students are not eligible. Not available to modular self-pacing students.

Entry Requirements

Applicants should normally hold a Bachelors degree (UK 2.1 or above) or equivalent qualification from a British or overseas university. Relevant work experience could be an additional benefit where applicants have not reached the standard entry requirements, although it is not an admissions requirement for this particular degree programme. Higher level professional qualifications may also be accepted. Each applicant is assessed on their own merit.
