International Financial Management with Advanced Practice - MSc

Course content

This flexible Masters’ course examines complex financial issues in the international market. It combines sector relevance with practical experience and self-development to provide you with the essential skills to function as an effective manager, both within the financial sector and across a range of multinational organisations.

Taught in conjunction with the International Financial Management MSc, this 2-year course includes an additional semester of Advanced Practice where you undertake either an internship with a company or work in the Business Clinic to provide solutions to real-life problems faced by local businesses.

Facilities include Newcastle Business School’s trading room which features Bloomberg Terminals that are used by top traders throughout the world, providing you with access to the latest data, information and analytics to support your studies.

During the final semester you will complete either the business-focused Masters Consultancy Project or a dissertation.

Teaching And Assessment

This highly flexible MSc takes an applied approach to learning. In addition to the six taught modules you will choose between a semester-long internship or a practical group project and either a dissertation or a consultancy project.

During the taught modules you will apply academic theory to real life business situations via tutorial-based activities, case discussion and group-work sessions. The course also includes a residential weekend to strengthen your self-reflection, independent learning and critical thinking skills.

Your second year includes either a 15,000-word dissertation or the Masters Consultancy Project which gives you an opportunity to work on a business problem or question faced by a real organisation.

Assessment takes the form of personal development planning, group and peer assessments, portfolios and reflective reports as well as traditional exams and essays.
