About the course

Our Master's in International Fashion Design Management offers continuing or recent graduates from either fashion or management related degree courses an opportunity to enhance their knowledge, skills and employment prospects. It is tailored towards students who wish to move into the fashion sector and manage either their own or others creative outputs.

Our course aims to combine subject specialist knowledge with creative and collaborative management and research skills. The course is designed to give a deep and professionally-focussed insight to the management of fashion product creation, distribution and promotion, and offers considerable flexibility for students to specialise in a topic of their choosing and benefit from collaborative projects, sharing complimentary knowledge and skills with those of fellow students. Applicants to this course will normally have a degree in fashion design or fashion business, but may also come from general business management disciplines. Alternatively, students may be currently practicing professionals with several years' experience within management roles or the creative industries.

We encourage students to work alongside others from related disciplines as well as undertaking subject specific modules in international fashion design management.

Our specialist staff and research expertise in the department brings students into contact with a wide range of academic staff, many of whom have industry experience. All of our staff are research active and are involved in the events of our research centres. Students are welcome to participate in these wider research contexts as part of their studies with us at the University of Huddersfield. As part of the course you will be able to become a part of a relevant research centre within the School.

The course is one of a suite of Master's courses within the School of Art, Design and Architecture.

Our modules offer a sophisticated and comprehensive understanding of the subject and provide an opportunity for you to explore new and innovative fashion design management and research strategies. You will be encouraged to develop a rigorous understanding of the current mechanics and issues within the international fashion industry and its implications for the design and implementation potential of fashion design management strategies.

There are many exciting opportunities for innovators within the creative industries in areas such as head office management, store management, production and manufacturing management, buying, merchandising, range selecting, product development, retail management, merchandising management and visual merchandising. The education sector or further doctoral study are also options.

Students studying within the subject area of Fashion and Textiles have gone on to be successful within the following roles: Wardrobe Manager at Northern Ballet; Head of Design at Rael Brook Shirts; Design Maker at Beverley Kendall and Dora Dolls; Senior Fabric Manager at Avery Dennison; Graduate Supervisor at Warehouse Fashions and Visual Merchandiser in Signet Jewellers.*
