International Events Management


Course Description

Study for a Masters in International Events Management at Liverpool John Moores University. This course will give you a critical, theoretical, strategic and practical knowledge and understanding of the sector on an international basis.

This programme provides a critical understanding of relevant contemporary issues, whilst focusing on the practical application of theory and events management ‘know-how’.

It is delivered by staff with practical and academic expertise, using a variety of learning approaches.

The programme is built on self-directed study and independent learning. You will need to read around highlighted materials, identifying and critically appraising important themes. Lectures and tutorials will require active participation and you will also be involved in task-oriented activities featuring guest speakers and group discussions.
The course has a strong emphasis on work-related learning. Modules such as ‘Planning and Resourcing Events’ and ‘Staging and Evaluating Events’ are particularly ‘hands-on’ in nature.

Course links with EventStart mean you can engage with the wider events community through volunteering and paid work opportunities, securing a broad range of employment-related skills and insights into the events industry.
In terms of support, you will be appointed a personal tutor who will provide academic and pastoral care. Additional academic guidance is available from module leaders, whilst generic study support comprises sessions on topics such as critical analysis, presentations skills and academic writing.

Research Methods

This module provides students with insights into methodologies and methods for their own research.

Individual Research Project

This module will help students to develop the skills necessary to plan and execute a research project that demonstrates critical and holistic knowledge and deeper understanding of the chosen subject area.

Events in a Global Society

The module provides students with critical perspectives of contemporary issues within the international events industry.

Planning and Resourcing Events

This module provides students with the theoretical knowledge, critical understanding and practical skills needed to plan and resource a live event. Students will experience the practical implementation of the different concepts and theories relevant to event planning and management.

Staging and Evaluating Events

This module provides students with the theoretical knowledge, critical understanding and practical skills needed to stage and evaluate a live event. Students will experience the practical implementation of the different concepts and theories relevant to staging and evaluating events and event impacts.

International Event Studies

The module provides students with a theoretical understanding of international event studies by exploring the historical and sociological development of international events as well the context of international event policy environments.
Learning and Managing at Masters Level

he module provides students with knowledge and understanding of conceptual frameworks and the learning skills necessary to perform successfully at Masters level.

Promoting Events

This module focuses on the theoretical knowledge and practical skills to promote events using effective communication tools.

Entry Requirements

You will need a first class or upper second Honours degree. Practical applied experience in events management is not essential.International students should also have IELTS English language at a minimum of 6.5 or equivalent. This course will only run subject to minimum numbers.
