Summary

Is your career aspiration to be a manager and business specialist within the international events industry? If so, this course aims to provide you with a specialist education in the management of international events to enable you achieve your aim.This programme will build on your existing knowledge and experience.

About

International Event Management is for those with career aspirations as managers and business specialists within the events industries. The programme is characterised by its management and leadership components with emphasis placed on the development of organisational and communication skills, knowledge and theoretical concepts to meet the needs of the event management industry. The programme will develop your ability to apply knowledge, acquire practical skills and enhance personal attributes that will be required for senior management positions in the events sector.

Attendance

The course starts with an induction period of three days duration. As a full-time student you will complete the master’s degree in three semesters / one calendar year. Part-time students complete a maximum of two modules per semester and it will take six semesters - 2 to 2½ years.

A key strength of the MSc is that it is modular in structure and delivered in blended learning mode with all modules being taught in 3 day intensive blocks. The block delivered modules are supported with online discussion groups and three learning set days per module.

Accredited by the Institute of Hospitality that academic, vocational and professional standards achieved are appropriate and programme content and delivery meet international Institute of Hospitality benchmark standards.

This qualification offers a world of opportunities in terms of career options in one of the world’s fastest growing sectors. Event organisers are responsible for the production of events from conception through to completion. Events can include: exhibitions and fairs; promotions and product launches; fundraising and social events.

The event industry is composed of a diverse range of work in the public, private and not-for-profit sectors and a management career can found within event management companies, in-house for an organisation or freelance.

Event organisers must be able to complete a wide range of activities such as researching markets to identify opportunities for events; consulting and liaising with clients, producing detailed proposals for events (e.g. timelines, venues, suppliers, legal obligations, staffing and budgets) to ensuring compliance with insurance, legal, health and safety obligations.
