Xu Pan

I started to look for jobs whilst I was studying the LLM International Trade Law at Nottingham Law School (NLS) and after graduation I took up a position managing an overseas investment case for a law firm. Currently I am working as a Business Development Manager for the HWL group in China and my career has really progressed since graduation.
I have been at HWL for about three years now. In the beginning I did not have much work experience but now I manage an independent sector in the branch company. My work is divided into two main parts as I am in charge of contract legal review as well as HR and general administration. In the future I will also integrate overseas market development into my role.
I always wanted to be a person who understood both Chinese and International Law really well, which is why I chose to study the LLM in International Trade Law. Going to NLS was a wise decision, I had a great time there and learned a lot from both my tutors and classmates. The experience has given me a lot of ideas which I have been able to put into practice. I have also used my knowledge to communicate with overseas partners and to handle international cases.
I loved Nottingham, it is a beautiful and lively city and I'm really grateful for my time there. The tutors at NLS are very supportive and if you work hard you will be able to achieve your goals.

I studied for my first degree a LLB in Hanoi in Vietnam. I chose to study the LLM in the UK because it can be completed in one year and I wanted to study international trade law as it thought it might be useful for my future career. I want to become a solicitor working in the legal department of an international company.
During my one year studying for an LLM at Nottingham Trent University (NTU), I gained invaluable experiences in many aspects. I have learned how to do legal research on unfamiliar topics, how to communicate effectively with classmates and tutors and I also had a chance to improve my English.
I chose NTU for the excellent reputation it has in legal courses and I was really satisfied with the quality of the teaching. The tutors are available whenever you need their advice, the class is orientated in an open way where you can interact closely and directly to the tutors and other classmates. NTU always tries to support students enthusiastically and that is what I love.
The most interesting person I've met since I came to NTU is my supervisor – Brian Harris. He has remained supportive to me during the LLM course and he was always available to answer my questions straight away.
I really enjoy the life in Nottingham. It's peaceful and convenient to travel to other cities in the UK as Nottingham is located at the heart of the country. Moreover, Nottingham Law School is in the middle of the city centre so we have access to everything we need. The people in Nottingham are very friendly, much friendlier than in other UK cities that I have visited.
What I like most about the UK is the way people use debit cards instead of cash and the CCTV cameras which make me feel safe when I go out.
I had a great time doing a master's degree at NTU and I have also recommended my friends to choose NTU as well. What an invaluable experience!
