Course content

The LLM International Business Law is available to students from both a legal and non-legal background. Our students have typically been law graduates, business graduates, legal professionals and people working in commercial fields both nationally and internationally. Within industry international business law is a fast-changing and increasingly complex area.

This postgraduate course provides students with analytical and reflective skills and expertise in international business law. It provides a learning experience which will enable students to develop their academic ability and enhance their performance in employment and further develop their career opportunities. It provides the successful candidate with a recognised postgraduate qualification in International Business Law.

Lancashire Law School at the University of Central Lancashire has been a leading provider of higher education in law for over thirty years. Over that period it has established a national and international reputation for its wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

The Law School actively works in partnership and develops opportunities with businesses and the local community. Funding is available for applied research through Knowledge Transfer Partnership schemes, research and development grants and awards. Academics are currently funded to work on applied research projects in the UK and internationally with a range of partners including Howgill Family Centre, the Racial Equality Commission and the World Health Organisation.

The Law School has superb links with the law profession, police and probation services and our students enjoy regular visits and talks from leading practitioners, academics, barristers, solicitors and judges.

LEARNING ENVIRONMENT AND ASSESSMENT

Teachings and Learning is predominantly through weekly synchronous and asynchronous online workshops. The learning ethos is to draw on the range and experience of our diverse student cohort

Our extensive e-law library facility gives access to many legal and academic sources from within and outside the jurisdiction.

Modules are assessed by coursework which comprises of a 1000 word essay plan which feeds into a 3000 word essay. This method of assessment has proved very popular with students as it provides useful feedback for their final submissions.

The course is supported by the University’s web-based Blackboard facility with ICT an integral part of the programme. The University subscribes to extensive electronic legal data bases and journals while all students are registered users of UCLan’s network with a dedicated network space accessible remotely.

Past graduates have gained or developed careers in legal private practice, public body legal services, and in corporate and commercial fields.
