Our MSc in Industrial Pharmaceutics will allow you to develop a holistic knowledge of the drug development process, including quality control/assurance and regulatory science.

It is primarily designed to prepare you for a career in industry or academia. The programme will equip you with knowledge in formulations and manufacturing, in addition to the analysis required to check the quality and verify that the medication is meeting the standards of the pharmacopoeia (BP, USP, JP and others).

This course can be useful to students from various background such as Pharmacy, Chemistry, Medicine, Chemical/material Engineering, Biology, Biomedical Sciences, Pharmacology, and Forensic Sciences who wish to pursue a career in industry whether it is a pharmaceutical industry or chemical industry. This course can also be useful as well for formulation scientists who currently work in industries to develop their knowledge and learn more skills.

LEARNING ENVIRONMENT AND ASSESSMENT

The MSc programme is delivered not only via the conventional means of face-to-face lectures, workshops, tutorials and seminars, but through the use of online technologies such as videos and discussion forums. We believe this helps to integrate students’ learning into their normal daily activities.

Practical classes, problem-based-learning exercises related to industrial challenges and reflective activities throughout the course, also help develop students’ ability to solve pharmaceutical problems practically and provide students an opportunity to apply their knowledge into practice - particularly in relation to the need for appropriate formulation design and development, and how these factors affect clinical outcomes in practice.

We have created a link with many pharmaceutical industries around UK. GSK is one of our supporters that send a team of their well-experienced staff to provide a whole day training for our students.

Wockhardt is a company that we have established a good link with and we have always ensured that our students get to see the industry and learn about the formulation and the manufacturing aspects from their experienced scientists.

Rosemont Pharmaceuticals is another industry that we have a close ties with and they always support our students with the best insight on the manufacturing of the liquid dosage forms and how dosage forms are designed step-by-step in their industry.

Seminars are held across the programme and are delivered by distinguished scientists from various industrial and academic institutes across the world.

Other industry links include Bristol Myers Squibb and we are continuously seeking further links with more industries in the UK and globally.

OPPORTUNITIES

Students are given the option to attend ‘The International Workshop on Nanomaterials in Health/Medicine’ that takes a place at UCLan. As a student on the programme you will also participate in additional training courses such as COSHH training.

Our graduates are working in various academic institutions around the world and some are working in Pharmaceutical industries in UK and overseas.

Students can continue to a PhD degree after studying this MSc. There are currently two PhD students who did the MSc Industrial Pharmaceutics course and started their PhD degree with our well-experienced staff. Past students have also been successful in securing the post of a research assistant for two years with UCLan’s School of Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences.
