"I wanted to start a career in HR, however I had never studied business or management before, so I wanted a course that could teach me all the basics on those topics, but also fully prepare me for a HR career.
The course reinforced my dream of becoming a HR professional. It outlined all the exciting challenges that the profession faces in the future.
The teaching staff on the course were very approachable. I never had to wait more than 24 hours for an email response and they were always there to talk to before and after lectures. They had all experienced the topics presented in real life in their previous jobs. They could use real life examples and case studies that made the lectures more relevant and up to date.
The tutors also connected me to some professional contacts and that was beneficial for my dissertation. They also arranged lectures where alumni from the course presented to us about their current careers in HR, and that gave us a real sense of what can be achieved with hard work.
All the lessons were geared to make us think as HR professionals, being asked by a manager or director to find a solution. The theory was there and accessible, however it was always interesting to see how other students’ on the course approached the case study issues. We were challenged to think, act quickly and professionally. We were taught to challenge our own beliefs and think about the greater good of the business and people.
I loved the fact that as part of the degree there was the opportunity of attending the CIPD Annual Conference for free in November. At the conference, I met many HR professionals that then went on to help me with my dissertation and are still supporting me as mentors throughout my career.
The fact that Manchester Met Business School was one of the few universities that the CIPD recognised, made a huge difference for me. I wanted to have that professional qualification, which you absolutely need, not just a Masters Degree. The CIPD accredits the course and the University's strong connection with the CIPD and the CIPD Manchester committee gives the course credibility. It is incredible value for money.
I have received a Masters Degree and a full CIPD qualification at the same time so would recommend the course to anyone considering a career in HR or people management."
"My supervisor for my dissertation has helped me immensely, she has gone out of her way to help me with professional contacts for my dissertation and I could not have completed it without her."
