Human Resource Management (HRM) can be defined as the management of work and people in order to achieve desired outcomes. For organizations, these desired outcomes involve high performance aligned with organizational goals. For employees, they involve career and development opportunities. Human Resource Managers take on the challenge of aligning individual needs with organizational requirements using HRM tools and models. At VU University Amsterdam, you will learn to reflect critically on these and many other issues facing HRM, a process taking place in the context of environmental and societal trends, such as the diversity of the employees’ backgrounds.
In order to gain admission to this specialization, you must have a bachelor’s degree (equal to the Dutch academic bachelor’s degree), including advanced courses in Organizational Behavior, Human Resource Management and Research Methods for Business. Good comprehension skills in English are absolutely necessary for the master’s programme.
