Housing Policy and Management MA

Course Description

Successful completion of the taught modules leads to a Postgraduate Diploma. In addition, successful completion of a dissertation will result in the award of MA. There is an emphasis throughout on comparative housing studies, focusing on the different countries in the UK as well as elsewhere, and students have the opportunity to take part in field study visits during their studies.

The programme is informed by current research and practice with a special focus on sustainability. Staff teaching on the programme are mainly housing specialists with close connections to practice.

This programme is fully accredited by the Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) which describes Northumbria University as a centre of excellence. The programme has been designed to meet the full academic requirements for membership of the CIH. When students who have successfully completes the postgraduate diploma have sufficient professional practice experience they need only subsequently undertake the CIH's professional practice element (APEX) for full membership (which confers the designation MCIH).

The School of the Built Environment has entered into a Partnership with the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) to promote excellence in teaching and the surveying profession. This means that students graduating with the MA and in employment will be eligible to begin the RICS Assessment of Professional Competence.
