Course Description
The School of Education provides an online portfolio of Career-long Professional Learning (CPL) programmes for the education workforce, to meet both current and emerging needs associated with the profession and to reflect the increasing importance attached nationally to professional learning, update and practice.
This programme, which embeds professional accreditation within the Certificate, is designed for practitioners who work within, or have access to, a higher education (HE) or equivalent setting and who wish to develop their skills and knowledge to gain a deeper understanding of and actively engage with, the diverse and changing contexts of contemporary HE.

About the programme
This programme delivers professional accreditation and academic qualifications and uses practical, task-oriented activities that participants apply to their own educational context. It addresses the broader socio-cultural and international contexts within which HE sits, as well as the professional contexts of HE practice. Internationalisation and inclusion inform all aspects of the curriculum, ensuring the programme’s relevancy to those working in local, national and international higher education.
Your learning

The Certificate comprises two core modules: Theory, Practice and Professional Identity; and Innovation into Practice. The Diploma phase comprises one compulsory module: Contemporary Issues in HE: local and global; and two optional modules selected from: Leadership Matters in HE; Internationalisation: Issues and Approaches; Research Supervisory Practice; and Research Methods (Contextualised) – compulsory for those progressing to the Masters phase. The Masters phase comprises a dissertation in consultation with the programme leader.

Graduates already working in HE will have career advancement opportunities; part-time staff and PhD students may gain full-time employment opportunities. Those working in practice-based educational settings outside HE can support their career advancement.

Professional recognition
The programme is accredited by the Higher Education Academy (HEA) and pathways are currently being developed to provide teacher accreditation with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).

Entry Requirements

This is a professional qualification for those who already have a higher education (or equivalent) teaching role. In addition to appropriate degree level qualifications, a regular teaching commitment is necessary. This must be a minimum of 100 hours of teaching (33 hours per module) at SCQF Level 7 or above, at least half of which must be spent in direct teaching contact time, across the duration of the course. Overseas students must meet UWS English language requirements.

Scottish/EU Students: £3,400, Rest of UK Students: £3,400, International Students £11,000
