The main objectives of the Higher Diploma in Archaeological Studies are to provide participants with a detailed knowledge and understanding of the core skills, themes and debates in archaeology. This will be delivered in the context of courses dealing with various themes, regions and chronological periods.
The programme is structured to suit the needs both of recent graduates who have taken a degree in another discipline and those who have completed foundation courses and wish to broaden their range of skills and their understanding of archaeology. Courses commence in September of each year and run over two semesters.
Students are fast tracked through the Level 2 and Level 3 archaeological programmes in one year (FT) or two years (PT). The H Dip is a 60 credit degree, providing students with the same amount of archaeological credit as a student taking a joint BA degree programme. It is therefore a foundation for applications to the G Dip/MA programmes.
The core and option structure allows students to specialise in one of the following streams:
Prehistoric Archaeology Historical Archaeology Landscapes and Environments
